At a glance
The person the player frees from the locked Chapter 1 room is not the real Romy. In Chapter 2, Steak says the rescued figure was a mimic; Splink's earlier line that Romy had been home shortly before supports the reveal. The mimic tackles Steak, then the final RUN sequence continues through the living room and basement tunnels.
Major Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 spoilers. The explanation follows the 2026-10-22 walkthrough and the pre-update Chapter 1/2 guide; it does not assign an unverified name or off-screen backstory to the mimic.

Short answer
The figure rescued from the locked room in Chapter 1 is not the real Romy. Steak identifies it as a mimic in Chapter 2. The game’s story does not establish that Romy herself transformed into the creature.
What the story shows
In Chapter 1, a voice behind the locked door claims to be Romy, Cruz’s sister. The player gets the bedroom key and opens the door; the escape sequence follows. Later, in Chapter 2, Splink says the real Romy had been home shortly before. After power is restored, Steak stops the player on the stairs and says the person released from his apartment was a mimic. The mimic then tackles Steak.
That sequence supports a substitution: the voice and rescued figure were a mimic pretending to be Romy. It does not establish the creature’s origin, how long it had been impersonating her, or what happened to the real Romy after the scene.
The ending and chase
The reveal leads directly into a RUN sequence through the living room and basement tunnels. The player falls; the mimic and another creature corner the player, and the screen fades to the Chapter 2 completion card. The linked walkthrough reports that the confrontation is left unresolved. The official Victim of a Another. badge describes being caught by “???”; it confirms a catch objective, but does not name the mimic.
What not to infer
The available sources do not identify the mimic as Charlie, Alex, or another named creator. They do not explain its origin or prove that the real Romy is dead. Those claims go beyond the shown scene. For the cast names and supported roles without the extended reveal, see the characters reference.
